FILMING

Today we filmed for the second time. We had an issue with one of the memory cards we filmed on and it turned out the footage we filmed for the middle part of our title sequence was wiped so much to our dismay we will have to film again and re shoot a lot of footage. This is going to be hard because we had some very good shots that we were we proud of and having to film again and perfect it to how it was previously is going to be difficult. However we will get this done as soon as possible and hopefully better than before now we have another chance to re shoot.

LOCATION

This is the setting we shot the majority of our title sequence. This room is in Sophie's house and it is her older sister's. We used this location because we thought it fits in best with the style we was going for (that includes the colour scheme).

PROPS

All week we have been printing off money to use in our title sequence. We have included £50, £20, £10, and £5 notes. We're using this in our title sequence as the money the four girls stole off of the drug lord.

Today the balaclava's we will use as prop/costume in our title sequence arrived. We ordered four off of amazon, they were very cheap (around £1.50 and good quality) We can now begin filming because we have one of the main props we need.

COSTUME

This is the full costume we've decided on our characters to wear for our title sequence. All black and balaclavas to connote that they've stolen the money and do not want to be seen by anyone on their way to the airport and we've added high heels and designer jewellery to emphasise the girls' glamour and desire to still look good even though their face is covered.

  

TODOROV'S NARRATIVE THEORY

EQUILIBRIUM - Four girls who have worked for a drug lord (Darnell) for many years are fed up of their lives (having someone bossing them around) and want to start their own buissness in the same area of work (drug deals). They steal the money they've earned working for Darnell back.

DISRUPTION OF THE EQULIBRIUM - The four girls decide to leave London and start a new life, they steal thousands of pounds and escape to America. They stop in Las Vegas where they double their money, they then settle in California with their own illegal business.

RECOGNITION OF THE DISRUPTION - The drug lords squad from London are on the girls tail trying to track them down but are always one step behind. As the girls business takes off, other gangs in California are trying to take them down.

ATTEMPT TO REPAIR THE DISRUPTION - The girls gang are involved in many shoot outs and deals as the illegal side of California erupts into chaos when the Londoners arrive, as do the FBI as they have caught on the situation.

NEW EQUILIBRIUM - Three girls are left and business partner (Alejandro) are in FBI custody being interrogated but don't give up any information of their remaining business.

FILMING

Today for the first time we filmed footage for our title sequence. Me and Sophie from my group feature in the footage as well as two of our friends. We chose to film in Sophie's sisters room as it has the perfect feel for the girls in our film. We cleared stuff out of the setting, gathered and added props to the location and begun getting ourselves ready and putting costumes on. After doing everything we were ready to start filming around 9:30pm. It took us a while to get used to the camera (how to work it) however considering this was my job within the group (cinematographer) I grasped it quite easily. We finished filming around 11:30pm. We didn't get all the footage we needed so we will need to film again and maybe re-shoot stuff when we watch the footage back.

ANIMATICS

These are the animatics Julia made from our story boards using Final Cut Pro. This will help us when it comes to filming as we'll know how long each shot is going to take and what is needed in it.

Next we will make these into animatics to visually get a bit of an idea on what our title sequence is going to look like and how long each of the shots will be and if it fits in with the time limit of our title sequence.

Most people said they enjoyed our narrative, character details and release date however what we need to work on would be getting a title for our film and looking more carefully into our budget as a few of our stars are well known which would increase the budget, along with our choice to have our film set in three different locations.

IDEA FOR TITLE SEQUENCE AND FILM NARRATIVE

Title sequence idea:
The four girls are getting ready to go to the airport, joking around laughing with all the money they have stolen from the drug lord in their room in London.

Narrative:
Four girls are employed by a drug lord in London and are fed up of working for him and want to run their own buisness abroad in California. They steal thousands of pounds from the drug lord and first go to Las Vegas, where they plan to double their money in the Casino's. It takes the drug lords squad a couple weeks to find out where the girls are and they then go to Las Vegas. To the drug lords squads dismay, they find out the girls have already moved state to Calfornia. In California the girls' happiness does not last long and everything spirals out of control when they realise they are being chased. In the end, one of the girls (Scarlett) gets killed and the remaining girls end up in jail.

This is the Danny Yount powerpoint my group presented. We chose this designer to help when it comes to making our own title sequence. Above I've included the rest of my class' research powerpoints of designers as me and my group looked through all of them and took inspiration.

SPRING BREAKERS ANALYSIS

Four college coeds find their Florida spring break taking an unexpectedly violent turn after falling in with a local gangster in this surreal black comedy from Harmony Korine (Mister Lonely, Trash Humpers). Left broke and alone on campus as their classmates head to Florida for some fun in the sun, coeds Candy (Vanessa Hudgens), Brit (Ashley Benson) and Cotty (Rachel Korine) steal a car, rob a local diner with plastic guns, and head south with their devoutly religious girlfriend Faith (Selena Gomez) in tow. But when the girls are thrown in jail following a police raid on a beachfront apartment, it looks like the party is over until wild-eyed drug dealer Alien (James Franco) inexplicably posts their bail. Sensing danger, Faith boards a bus bound for school as her three friends fall into a dangerous cycle of drugs and debauchery. Later, a scary run-in with Alien's bitter rival prompts yet another of the girls to hightail it back to campus, leaving the remaining two to embrace their dangerous new lifestyle with reckless abandon.

SAUL BASS PRESENTATION

ANALYSIS OF ZOMBIELAND TITLE SEQUENCE

The title sequence for Zombieland shows several different zombies chasing down normal people. The whole of this sequence has rock music playing, this connotes anarchy and rebellion. The font that is used are in bold red letters. The red letters could connote that the genre of the film is horror as red is usually associated with danger, blood and gore.

We then see a mid shot of a man who is has blood pouring from his mouth,showing that this film will be violent and gory, this is backed up through the whole title sequence as some form of blood or attack is always preset. This also connotes that the film is a horror genre as the 'man' looks like a zombie and blood is also a typical convention of horror films.

There are several shots throughout the sequence that show ordinary workers running from the zombies. One shot is of a woman running whilst spilling her drink in the air, her expression shows sheer horror as she is clearly fearing for her life as a zombie is trying to attack her. Another zombie is in a wedding dress, this could foreshadow that the zombie formation could happen at any time, and that these zombies would have been normal people living normal lives, which also shows that their is a virus that is effecting them in this way.

Although there are clear links to the horror genre in this title sequence there are also comedic elements as well as several binary oppositions. One shot its shown of a zombie stripper chasing after a well dressed
 business man, the fact that the woman is almost naked add to the comedy of this sequence. Also, usually it's men that are after strippers, yet this time it has been flipped around. This could also show that the women in this film may possibly be the stronger gender as several zombie women are shown throughout the sequence.

One man is holding a sign reading 'The end is near' this could foreshadow that the end is near due to the zombies and that the zombie apocalypse may have possibly been predicted to end the world.
The whole of the sequence is in slow motion, this could be to show the typical stereotype of a zombie, that they are slow and can be out run. Although the fact that both the zombies and humans are in the same slow shot could foreshadow that the humans will not be able to escape the zombies and they could possibly be at the same speed. There are also shots of Zombies attacking policemen and firemen.This shows that the zombies have no care for the people that they are attacking and it especially shows that they do not show and respect for authoritative figures.

At the end of the title sequence there is a shot of a man with a machine gun. This foreshadows that the uninfected people may take a stand and attempt to rid everywhere of the zombies in order for them to be able to survive. One man that is being chased is holding a briefcase, this shows the audience that the zombies do not care for the people that they are going after, and that they are just after anyone they can see.

ANALYSIS OF SE7EN TITLE SEQUENCE

 The film about two detectives' hunt for a serial killer who is murdering people and justifying the crimes by absolution for the worlds ignorance of the Seven Deadly Sins. The two detectives try and track down the serial killer who chooses his victims bases on the Seven Deadly Sins. Together, the two detectives trace the murderers every step, witnessing the aftermath of his horrific crimes one by one as the victims increase, all while moving closer to a gruesome fate neither of them could have predicted.

The title sequence starts with a close-up shot of a book, this creates a sense of mystery for the viewer as they don't know what's in it, the next camera angle is a high-angle shot looking down on the book, revealing to the viewer what is on the page, it then shows lots of different shots of close-ups on objects that don't seem to have any meaning to the viewer at that point which creates suspicions and keeps the audience guessing. There are no long shots in this title sequence so it doesn't really allow the viewer to see what's fully going on, reinforcing the mystery of it. Throughout the clip all of the camera angles are high angles or at eye level which could connote that the filmmaker doesn't want you to see anything of real importance yet, and that all the objects shown are of little importance as they are looked down on.

The Mise-En-Scene signifies what to expect from the film and the overall tone it puts across, which is ominous. The lighting in this extract is very dark adding to the ominous tone throughout and there are shadows which could be perceived as someone moving about which keeps the viewer slightly alert, wondering who or what it is. The colours used are very dull and usually consist of brown, grey and black. You can see some words being highlighted on paper, with a black pen, the black connotes death and bad things. The objects shown such as blades and needles also help create a dark mood. The props such as the book and the images etc, add to suspicion of the viewer and make them wonder what the person is doing.

The editing then changes to fast paced cuts, showing a variety of different objects, giving effect as they're shown on the screen for long enough for the audience to see what they are, but not long enough for them to figure out why they're included. The credits shown throughout help define the genre as they are messy and flicker on the screen, the credits are like a flickering light bulb about to run out of light, which creates a sense of foreboding. Most of the images shown, look as if they're being doubled but they are blurred, which connotes to the audience that the person that is in the opening sequence is not mentally stable and doesn't see things clearly. The editing also helps set the mood and adds to the curiosity of the viewer as the shots with the books and writing being highlighted in are more slow paced than the other shots, signifying importance and makes the audience wonder what the person is doing.

The sound used in this clip, is mostly non-diegetic but some sounds are made to sound natural. For example, sometimes in the clip, a very high pitched noise occurs which tricks the viewer into thinking it's someone screaming, which connotes danger and someone desperate for help and sets the audience up for the rest of the film. The background music is heavy-sounding and is quite fast. this is typical of a thriller movie as it creates suspense.

Analyzing this title sequence has helped me understand the features involved in 'crime thrillers' and how they have used mise-en-scene, editing, sound and camera techniques to keep the reader on the edge of their seats. This hopefully will help me and my group when we come to planning our opening title sequence.

Initial Ideas 
-Our first idea for the film was the aftermath of a teenage house party where contaminated drugs where taken and the group of protagonists have to work out what happened and deal with the subsequent dramas.-The second was a group of girls in London who take their heart broken friend on a night out. -This idea got the most developed but we realized to film the title sequence (which would be the party) was next to impossible.-We went back to this idea and developed the story line before changing it completely but keeping the four main girls, this then developed into our final idea.In time outside of lessons we began to develop the four girls back stories and working the film idea around them, small elements where changes and thought on before we finalized the story and made our pitch.
